NAME: SUNY Diversity Abroad Honors Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: US citizens, permanent resident aliens, NY state residents; underrepresented and low-income categories

DEADLINE: Oct 5 for spring, March 1 for summer/fall

OTHER: Campuses may consider financial need and economic disadvantage as a diversity indicator, but applicants must also meet high academic standards.

NAME: Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY: U.S Citizens; Undergraduate in good academic standing; Students receiving a Federal Pell Grant

NAME: Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant

AMOUNT: $1000

ELIGIBILITY: undergraduate attending institution with an active Phi Kappa Phi chapter, GPA of 3.75 or higher, have applied or been accepted to accredited study abroad program before scholarship deadline



NAME: David L. Boren Undergraduate Scholarship

AMOUNT: up to $20,000

ELIGIBILITY: US citizen; matriculated undergraduate student at a US college/university

DEADLINE: Feb 5, 2020

OTHER: must demonstrate interest in a career in public service; study of a foreign language appropriate to the identified country must be part of each proposal

NAME: FEA (Fund for Education Abroad) Study Abroad Scholarship

AMOUNT: $1250 – $5000

ELIGIBILITY: US citizen or permanent resident; currently enrolled as undergrad at US college/university; study abroad program must be eligible for credit at student’s home institution

DEADLINE: Closed for the year

OTHER: preference to students with demonstrated financial need, strongly encourages traditionally underrepresented students to apply, such as first-generation college students, minority students, community college students

African Students

NAME: TBI’s Christine and Mark Read Scholarship

NAME:  The Leakey Foundation’s Baldwin Fellowships for Students from Developing Countries

AMOUNT:  max $15,000 per year for two years

ELIGIBILITY:  citizenship in a developing country (includes all African countries)


OTHER:  This fellowship would cover the full cost of the 2 year program for a student to attend Turkana University College in Kenya and receive a MSc in Human Evolutionary Biology (which includes one semester and one summer at TBI’s field school). Contact for further information.

NAME: Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship

AMOUNT: $1000

ELIGIBILITY: US citizen, permanent resident, or in US on a student visa; full-time undergraduate student in good academic standing at a 4-year college/university in the US; have applied to or been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by your college/university

DEADLINE: April 15, 2020 for Fall; November 15, 2020 for Spring


NAME: Diversity Abroad Overseas Ambassador Scholarship

AMOUNT: $500

ELIGIBILITY: Currently enrolled full-time at a US based college/university; min 2.75; Economically disadvantaged students, first-generation, students with disabilities and ethnic and racial diverse students are strongly encouraged to apply.


OTHER: Semester program; The Overseas Ambassadors will serve as an overseas correspondent, sharing their experiences to motivate other members of the community to go abroad.

NAME: iWaterPurification Foundation Clean Water Scholarship

AMOUNT: $1000

ELIGIBILITY: Attending a registered university in: The United States, Canada, Australia or The United Kingdom; GPA of 2.5 or above; previous course credit related to: environmental science, biology, engineering, film & art, law, international politics or chemistry; financial need.

DEADLINE: December

OTHER: Write a persuasive essay of 1,000 words using references from authoritative sources to back up your arguments.
